FAQs

I’ve never worked with you before. Where should I start?

I recommend starting with a 60-minute
astrology reading.

What’s the best way to work with you longterm?

The
Art of Astrology package includes 5 60-minute sessions over the course of one year. You can book whenever you’d like, at any pace. I recommend it if you want to delve deeper into astrological studies, learn more about transits and how to read your chart and the charts of others, and/or are working on a project, artistic or otherwise, that you want feedback on in relation to astrology.

What is astrology and how can it help?

Astrology is a way of seeing, a method of connecting our world to the cosmos. Plato writes that the order of the cosmos acts as a mirror for divine reason and that through studying it, we learn about ourselves. Carl Jung calls it the first psychology, a way of understanding ourselves and the world through planetary language and the ever-changing patterns of the sky. Dane Rudhyar called it the ‘planetarization of consciousness.’ As a method of cosmic timekeeping, it has the potential to restore texture, nuance, and ritual to our current digitized time crisis. Astrology is also a method of divination and an analogical language—-offering unexpected and imaginative ways of perceiving and connecting via its main tenet: “as above, so below.”

What is a birth chart?

Astrology has a lot to do with beginnings. A birth chart is a map of the sky from the moment you were born. I find that birth charts provide generative information about your life, creative inclinations, and place in the cosmos. It’s also a kind of screen shot—-a freeze-frame of the always-moving celestial sphere, a moment in time. I like to think of it as an interesting image that, when considered regularly, will constantly yield new wisdoms.

What are your qualifications and influences?

I bring my 10+ years years of practice, education, and teaching in the arts and philosophy to my astrology practice. I’m a writer, editor, and a poet with graduate degrees in art and writing. I’ve studied Hellenistic astrology with Adam Elenbaas at Nightlight Astrology School and have been working with clients and teaching hybrid courses on the intersections of art, astrology, and alchemy for 5+ years. My artistic and astrological practices are influenced by poetry, cinema, philosophy, and visual art. The astrologers and thinkers I return to again and again include Carl Jung, Dane Rudhyar, Demetra George, Liz Greene, Byung-Chul Han, Simone Weil, Georges Bataille, Camille Paglia, Freud, James Hillman, Plato, Hegel, Hildegard von Bingen, and Julia Kristeva.

What can I expect from a reading with you?

I see the astrology session as a confidential and sacred space for study, free association, and the sharing of fears and dreams. Prior to our session, I’ll spend time with your chart, studying its patterns and aspects, keeping in mind your main questions and concerns while taking notes and making associations. During the session, I’ll share my thoughts with you, answer any questions you may have, and ask about your own impressions of your chart. I often pull from philosophy, mysticism, alchemy, and art in order to interpret a natal chart, offering recommendations for further reading, creative practices, or films and artists along the way. Depending on your prior experience with astrology, I provide the basics of your chart and talk to you about what I see as being its main planetary influences. We may also discuss transits.

How should I prepare for a reading with you?

The more clear you can get on what you’d like to get out of the reading, the better. Come with an open mind and at least one question. It may also help to reflect on your own birth chart prior to our reading, which you can pull up on astro.com or astro-seek.com—-and get a ‘feel’ for it.

Which house system do you use?

I use the whole sign house system.
